Harare — Zimbabwe aviation authorities say they impounded a U.S.-registered cargo plane, with state media reporting that a dead body and millions of South African rand were on board.
Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe general manager David Chawota confirmed a plane registered with Florida-based Western Global Airlines was impounded at Harare airport on Sunday. Chawota said the crew requested to land for refueling and ground personnel discovered blood and investigated.
Zimbabwe's state-run Herald newspaper, quoting unnamed sources, reported on Monday that the MD-11 trijet cargo plane was traveling from Germany to South Africa. The newspaper reported that crew members include two Americans, a South African and a Pakistani. The U.S. embassy said it did not yet have a comment on the matter.
