Lafayette, Ind. — A 44-year-old man convicted of fatally stabbing a co-worker and dumping his body along a highway in Lafayette in 2014 has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.
William Paz also was found guilty in February on a charge of obstruction of justice. Authorities said he killed 26-year-old Primitivo Flores, a co-worker at a restaurant.
The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports that Tippecanoe Superior Judge Randy Williams handed down the minimum sentence Thursday, explaining the punishment will adversely affect Paz's family in Central America, who were receiving $700 monthly from his job in Lafayette. Paz is from El Salvador.
During the four-day jury trial, Paz's defense attorneys argued that Paz's roommate was to blame. For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!
