UK heir admits to delaying wife's burial

01 August 2012, 16:05

London - Tetra Pak packaging dynasty scion Hans Kristian Rausing pleaded guilty on Wednesday to delaying the burial of his wife, whose decomposing body was found under bin bags at their London mansion.

Millionaire Rausing, aged 49, pleaded guilty at Isleworth Crown Court in London to preventing the lawful and decent burial of his US-born wife Eva.

He also admitted driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.

Rausing was originally arrested last month on suspicion of murdering his 48-year-old wife, after police found her rotting body at their luxury home on 9 June.

Officers had searched the townhouse in London's plush Chelsea district after Rausing was detained on suspicion of drunk driving.

The Rausings had struggled publicly with drug addiction for many years and were known for their generous donations to addiction charities.

The couple, who have four teenage children, first met at an addiction clinic and were charged in 2008 after Eva tried to take crack cocaine and heroin into a function at the US embassy in London.

Rausing's father Hans, aged 86, developed the Tetra Pak business founded by his own father into a multi-billion dollar operation that revolutionised the packaging of food and drink, but later sold his stake.
