Aswan, Egypt - Some 500 foreign tourists were stranded Thursday on their way back from a tour at Abu Simbel Temple in Upper Egypt's Aswan governorate, as local farmers blocked the road in protest of meager irrigation water, a security source told Xinhua.
He added that the tourists are from different countries including France, Britain, Germany, and China.
"They are all safe and they will complete their tours in the governorate after resolving the issue and reopening the road," the official added.
The source noted that there are ongoing discussions between security officials and the residents to end the unrest and reopen the road.
A similar incident took place late April, when some local Nubians blocked the same road before some 600 tourists to protest unfair distribution of agricultural lands.
