Shots heard at US Capitol

04 October 2013, 08:15

Washington - Police say the US Capitol has been put on a security lockdown amid reports of possible shots fired outside the building. The lockdown has been lifted, after about thirty minutes.

People standing outside the Supreme Court across the street from Congress were hurried into the court building by authorities.

In a notice distributed by email, the US Capitol Police advised everyone to "close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows". The notice said gunshots have been reported on Capitol Hill. There are unconfirmed reports of an officer injured.

A vehicle attempted to ram a barrier near the Treasury building in the vicinity of the White House. It seems a chase ensued and the car was stopped. It appears the driver was shot.
