Oklahoma - Federal prosecutors have appealed a judge's order to release a 19-year-old U.S. man charged with sexually abusing boys and girls while volunteering at an orphanage in Kenya that assists neglected children.
Prosecutors filed the appeal on Tuesday just hours before Matthew Lane Durham was set to be released to confinement in his family's Oklahoma home. U.S. Magistrate Shon Erwin granted bond in the case on Monday.
Durham faces up to life in prison if convicted of engaging in illegal sexual conduct in foreign places and various other charges.
Erwin ordered Durham's release after his parents testified they do not believe allegations he engaged in sex acts with up to 10 children aged 4 and 10 years old while volunteering at the Upendo Children's Home near Nairobi from April to June.
