Nairobi – Capital News reports that the Kenyan government has called on Cyprus to use its upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union to rally support for Kenya’s efforts aimed at stabilising peace and security in Somalia.
Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka in talks with President Demetris Christofias at the presidential palace in Nicosia said it was the expectation of Kenya that Cyprus with whom they enjoy a long history of friendship will use its role to seek understanding and assistance within the EU for Kenya’s operations in Somalia aimed at rooting out militants and extremists.
In his response President Christofias said that peace and security in the Horn of Africa was a vital factor for world trade and that Cyprus understood that Kenya was not harbouring any expansionist designs but was only keen to secure its borders from attacks.
