Dost broke a bone in his foot during practice at the team's training camp in Portugal while fighting for the ball with teammate Dante. The club says Dost is likely to have surgery. The Dutchman leads Wolfsburg with seven goals in the first half of the season.

Wolfsburg director Klaus Allofs says the club will "now consider what options are possible" in the transfer market. Backup striker Nicklas Bendtner may now stay at the club despite being considered for a loan deal.

Wolfsburg has qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League and next plays Gent.
