West Ham considering Zaza and Bony deals

25 August 2016, 08:37

Cape Town - West Ham manager Slaven Bilic says the club are considering signing high profile forwards Simone Zaza and Wilfried Bony.

Bilic has been forced to dip back into the transfer market after club-record signing Andre Ayew suffered a thigh injury 35 minutes into his debut against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Andy Carrol and Diafra Sakho, his two other strikers, are also sidelined at the moment, leaving the Croatian well short of options up-front.

Bony and Zaza are both seeking moves from their respective clubs having fallen down the pecking order over the past two seasons but their quality in front of goal is undeniable.

Skysports reported last week that Simone Zaza's father revealed his son had received an offer from the Hammers, and Bilic confirmed the rumours after being questioned about the club's transfer activity.

"We have a couple of players we are trying to do a deal with. We have injuries and we are short of numbers," he told Sky Sports. "In terms of signings, if something good quality-wise comes up, we are going to act.

"We were linked with [Zaza] last year and he is a top player. We were in contact with him last year and will see what happens. We will not sign someone because we have to act now. The longest injury is Ayew Andre and we expect him to be fit in December.

"The other players should be back very soon. We have to be optimistic and we cannot moan about it. We will try to do something.

"[Bony] is also an option because he plays in the position we are looking for. I leave negotiations to the chairman and [head of recruitment] Tony Henry."
