WATCH: Is Eric Cantona the next England manager?

13 July 2016, 08:29

Cape Town - Former Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has declared that he wants to become the next manager of the England national team.

After a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign, where England failed to make the quarter-finals following a shock 2-1 defeat to Ireland.

Minutes after the upset, Roy Hodgson announced his resignation as the England coach, since taking over the post in 2012.

There have been many speculations over who will fill Hodgson's position from Gareth Southgate to Sam Allardyce, but former United forward Cantona has all the answers.

In a Eurosport video, the retired French footballer says he will be delighted to carry the weight of England's shoulders upon him vouching that he will do everything needed to make the team good again with hilarious strategies and tactics.

"We will be looking for the best person for the job, not necessarily the best Englishman. I heard the call! That is why today, the self-appointed Commissioner of Football declares his candidacy," says Cantona, who is seen wearing a Three Lions jersey.

He also makes various pledges on what he will achieve as England's new manager, saying:

"I, manager of England, promise to never criticise Wayne Rooney… unless he transfers to another club."

Cantona also takes a stab at England goalkeeper Joe Hart, saying that he "will pray to the Gods of football to end the curse of the English goalkeeper".

"I, manager of England, accept to temporarily give up my official title 'Eric the King' for a more humble 'Eric the Boss'.

"I, manager of England, will take Sir Alex Ferguson as my special advisor and my good friend Peter Schmeichel for the assistant job. So for the same price, you will get Tintin and the Captain Haddock!"
