Sundowns urged to sign Olunga

26 December 2015, 18:25

Nairobi - Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Matthew Booth is not convinced by Leonardo Castro and thinks the club should look to bring in Kenyan striker Michael Olunga.

Booth admitted that the Brazilians probably don't need to add to their squad after a successful spell in the last couple of months, but said if they do intend on buying players in January, they should look for a striker.

It is a controversial opinion considering the club have won their last six games in a row in all competitions, scoring 15 goals in that time, and are unbeaten in 12 games since the beginning of September.

"If there is going to be any signing, I would like to see a top striker coming in," Booth told Goal. "I do not think Leonardo Castro has done enough to fill the gap that was left by Cuthbert Malajila when he got injured.

"I have seen Olunga in action for Kenya and his team Gor Mahia. I think he is a lot busier and more hardworking than Castro and he will offer Sundowns much more.

"He will give a different dynamic to the strike force. He is obviously tall and deadly in the air but the PSL is a different stage and we can only judge him a lot better if when he has played here," Booth concluded.

Olunga was named the Kenya Premier League player of the season after contributing 19 goals to Gor Mahia's championship winning campaign in 2015.
