Should Mourinho convince Giggs to stay?

24 May 2016, 13:17

Cape Town - Ryan Giggs is arguably one of Manchester United's most decorated players to ever don the colours but the legendary figure is now contemplating leaving the club.

With the imminent arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager following the sacking of Louis Van Gaal, Giggs is now considering cutting ties with the club - where he has been since his 14th birthday.

In the coming days, the Red Devils are set to announce the appointment of Mourinho and it will be interesting to see if the Portuguese will attempt to convince the Welshman to remain in his current post.

According to The Telegraph, Mourinho is set to bring in his most trusted coaching duo of Rui Faria and Silvino Louro.

The two has been working alongside Mourinho for years during his time at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Giggs has always been touted by Sir Alex Ferguson that the 42-year-old will one day become the manager of the Old Trafford side.

The once quick footed winger had a taste of managerial life as interim after United sacked David Moyes in 2014.

It is said that Giggs has privately stated that he would leave United if he is not given the opportunity to manage the prestigious club.

However, if he does so and fails as a manager elsewhere it would taint his aspirations of ever having an opportunity in the hot seat.

Peter Schmeichel, former United goalkeeper, is all for Giggs to become the manager one day but reckons the assistant coach should ply his trade elsewhere first.

"I think a lot of people would like to see him (Giggs) become the manager one day and I think for that to happen it would be so good for him to have had a job somewhere else, where he has to stand on his own two feet, learn the trade and if he is successful he can come back and manage United," said Schmeichel.

So, should Mourinho convince the retired winger - who still holds the Premier League record for the most assists with 162 - to remain in the dugout alongside him or is time for the last of 'Fergie's Fledglings' to close this chapter of their Red Devil career?
