Seaman urges Wenger to splash the cash

18 July 2016, 17:47

Cape Town - Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman is hopeful that Arsene Wenger will still be active in the transfer market before the English Premier League season begins.

Wenger looked to attack the transfer market with early moves of £35m for Granit Xhaka and activating Jamie Vardy's £20m release clause.

Since the latter deal failed to materialise, Seaman feels the Gunners need reinforcements in key areas if they are to challenge for the title this campaign.

"We still need a dominant centre-half," the former England shot-stopper told Talksport

"We'll see what Granit Xhaka's like in midfield, but ideally we need someone like Patrick Vieira. And a striker as well.

"He needs to buy someone to give the club a lift and give the fans a lift. Ideally a striker would be great, but either a centre-half or midfielder would do for me."
