Oliseh resigns as Super Eagles coach

26 February 2016, 12:34 Israel Ojoko

Lagos - Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has on Friday resigned from the position.

Oliseh resigned just after seven months in the position after his appointment in July 2015.

Announcing his resignation on twitter, the former Super Eagles captain said he took the decision “due to Contract violations, lack of Support, Unpaid wages, Benefits to my players, Asst. Coaches & myself.”

He however said “I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to Play,Captain & Coach this great Nation of ours, Nigeria.”

His resignation is coming barely three weeks after he released videos on February 8, where he slammed critics for faulting him after Nigeria crashed out of the 2016 CHAN. He also claim he did not beg the Nigeria Football Federation for the job, and said journalists were demanding money from him to write favourable stories.

Since releasing the video, Oliseh has not mended the consequences it led him into with his employers and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, who has since labelled him a "pathological liar and is not fit to continue as coach of the Super Eagles" for refusing to name the journalists in his claim.

During Oliseh’s short stint as head coach, former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama and striker Emmanuel Emenike both announced their premature retirement from international football due to issues with the coach.

His immediate predecessor Stephen Keshi coached the side for three years and won the 2013 AFCON trophy. He also led Nigeria to the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
