Okumbi happy with first win

07 June 2016, 12:44

Nairobi - In the face of getting eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers group stages, Kenya coach Stanley Okumbi was delighted that his side managed to finish the campaign on a high.

The Harambee Stars came from behind to beat Republic of Congo 2-1 in their penultimate 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifier at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

The victory comes as a consolation for Stanley Okumbi's team, as they are currently sitting at the bottom of the group with just four points from a possible fifteen, having lost three of their four previous matches.

Okumbi, who only took charge of the senior national team in January, was a relieved man after picking up his first international win with Stars and thanked the fans who came out  to support the team in numbers.

"It is not me who has won today. It’s the players and the fans. In fact, I am so impressed with the fans today because they came out and supported us until the very end," Okumbi said after the match.
