No discussions with Keshi, says Khoza

08 June 2016, 17:52

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza admits that there has been no discussions with Stephen Keshi to replace Eric Tinkler.

Sport24 reported on the passing of the former Nigeria coach and captain after suffering from a heart attack.

Khoza described the death of the 54-year-old as a "great loss" and that he is "one of the few men to represent his country at AFCON and the World Cup".

According to KickOff, Khoza cleared the air on whether Keshi was to be appointed as coach of the Sea Robbers during the off season following widespread rumours.

"Keshi to Pirates? There was a possibility before he joined the Nigerian national team,” he said.

"It's regrettable because at some time we were expecting him to be a coach in South Africa. It would've been nice to have a player and coach of his calibre at Pirates.”

The Buccaneers chairman went on to state that after Keshi mentored Togo, the Nigerian would’ve been lured to South Africa.

Khoza also went on to add that there have been no discussions with Keshi replacing Tinkler.

"At the time when he came from Togo, there was about a 70% that he would come to South Africa," Khoza continued.

"There are a lot of Nigerian supporters in South Africa. This time around there were no discussions opened."
