Moyes struggling to attract stars to Sunderland

02 August 2016, 17:14

Cape Town - David Moyes is hopeful of making a number of signings before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month, but has so far struggled to tempt his first-choice targets to Sunderland.

The former Everton and Manchester United boss, who has already released a number of players, revealed that the club has made bids for players but they are struggling to attract big-name players.

Moyes openly admitted that he would love to sign Marouane Fellaini, a player he took from the Toffees to United in 2013, but isn't hopeful of a deal going through.

He told the BBC: "I'd love to have that level of player. Realistically, that's probably not going to happen.

"We've got bids in for players just now. We're trying to strengthen the squad and I'm hopeful some of them will come off. In this market at the moment, you just never know," he added.

Despite Moyes' new club having only once finished outside the bottom eight Premier League clubs since promotion in 2007, Moyes is hopeful he can improve on that record.

"It wouldn't be outrageous to see Sunderland being a regular top-10 team, but for some reason it hasn't happened," he said.

"We need to do the work, get it right and give everybody something to shout about. We have to feel that we're not in this league just to survive every year."
