Mkhitaryan keen on Man United move

16 June 2016, 18:20

Cape Town - The agent of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed that his client has his heart set on joining Manchester United in the current transfer window.

The 27-year-old has been locked in contract negotiations with Dortmund for the past four months, but appears no closer to agreeing a new deal.

In fact, the Armenia international is looking to leave the Bundesliga outfit amidst interest from Jose Mourinho, who was recently named Manchester United's new manager.

However, it appears Dortmund are in no mood to bow to the wishes of the midfielder, with  the club's CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, claiming they would block the player's departure. This after Mkhitaryan's representative, Mino Raiola, claimed the club had agreed to allow the player to move in the current transfer window.

"We've been negotiating a new deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months," Watzke told German publication Bild.

"We now know he won't sign an extension. There was never a promise that he can leave us prematurely."

In response to Watzke's latest revelation, Raiola said: "Those in charge at BVB promised Micki months ago that he can leave the club in the summer.

"Dortmund have an official offer, but the BVB bosses now fear their fans. All of a sudden they say that he has to leave on a free next summer. That's very bad management.

"Manchester United are a unique opportunity. Micki wants to join them now by any means."

The Red Devils have reportedly made an offer of €24m for the midfielder, but Dortmund are fearful of allowing another one of their stars to depart, especially after selling Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan to Bayern Munich and Manchester City respectively.
