Meulensteen: Fergie would've spurned Zlatan

Cape Town - Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen says Sir Alex Ferguson would have turned down the chance to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic had he still been manager.
The former Sweden international joined the Red Devils on a free transfer this week, signing a one-year deal with an option of an additional 12 months after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite his record as one of the most prolific strikers in European football, Meulensteen reckons Ferguson would not have brought Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford, choosing instead to focus on developing the youth.
"Maybe nine times out of 10 he would not have made a decision like this," the Dutchman told The Sun.
"That is because of everything that Alex Ferguson wanted to do with youngsters - bring them through and improve them as players.
"But if he felt the situation was there for the one time out of 10, he would do it. Like bringing in Laurent Blanc, a player in his 30s, after Jaap Stam left."
