Mbugua targets first team spot at Gor Mahia

02 August 2016, 18:23

Nairobi - Gor Mahia attacker Anthony Mbugua has set his sights on cementing a regular place in the team after his debut recently.

Mbugua made his maiden appearance for the defending champions in the 2-0 victory over Nairobi Stima at the Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

The club signed the player in June after the departure of Ugandan Khalid Aucho. Injuries have hampered the youngster since his arrival at club two months ago.

"I feel good that I have finally played for Gor Mahia. Senior players like Jerim (Onyango) and Musa (Mohammed) have been very supportive which has boosted my confidence," Mbugua told Soka.

"I think I made the right decision to join Gor Mahia. It is not really a step backwards in my career.

"I want to work harder to cement a place in the team. I know it is very tough because we have other players like (Amos) Nondi and (Francis) Kahata who can play the same role for the team. However nothing is impossible and I believe I am on the right track.

"I was not really impressed with my performance especially in the first half but in the second half I did better. There is still a lot of room for improvement though."
