Nairobi - Ulinzi Stars defender Omar Mbongi wants to establish himself as a
regular feature for the Harambee Stars after making his debut against Cape Verde on Friday.
Mbongi started as left full-back and admitted to being nervous before
the game, but credited his teammates and the coaching staff for giving
him the confidence to play well in the 1-0 win in Nairobi.
"Of course I was nervous at some point because this was my debut for
the national team, in a crucial match. But the technical bench, the
captain and the coaches really gave me a lot of confidence before and
during the match and I ended up playing very well," Mbongi told Soka.
"I have received a lot of congratulatory messages and that really
encouraged me because when I went in, I really wanted to give my best.
"It is not easy maintaining that position because there are other
very good players as well. But I want to work hard and God willing I
become a regular. It is so much pride playing for your national team and
for me, this is more of a dream come true," he added.
