Liverpool, Juventus most represented clubs at Euro 2016

10 June 2016, 18:30

Cape Town - The Euro 2016’s first whistle will be blown in only a few hours (June 10, kick off at 21:00 SAST) when hosts, France, take on Romania at Stade de France in Saint-Denis.

All 552 players will be hoping to perform and steer their team to lifting the Henri Delaunay Trophy with honour come July 10.

In the 15th European Championship contest, we’ve seen a huge representation of Premier League clubs spread throughout the 24 participating countries.

According to The Guardian, 106 of the 552 players are top flight Premier League clubs, and have identified seven various leagues throughout Europe, namely:

Premier League - 106 players

German Bundesliga - 56 players

Italian Serie A - 49 players

Turkey’s Super Lig - 36 players

Spanish La Liga - 35 players

Russia Premier League - 31 players

English Football League Championship - 31 players

18 of the 21 countries have at least one player from the Premier League with five-time Champions League title winners Liverpool heading the player tally with 12 men, including England’s Daniel Sturridge and Belgium’s Christian Benteke.

However there could’ve been more representation, particularly from Liverpool’s side such as Mahmadou Sakho, who became one of the snubs from this year’s Euro 2016.

Outside of the United Kingdom, Serie A club, Juventus also joins the Reds with 12 players. Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the Turkish outfit Fenerbahce has nine players, while Real Madrid has eight players in France.

Euro new entries Wales and Northern Ireland boast 13 and 12 players from top flight clubs, respectfully.

Here are some of the Premier League teams and their player participation in the Euro:

Liverpool - 12 players

Juventus - 12 players

Tottenham - 11 players

Manchester United - 10 players

Everton - 7 players

Manchester City - 7 players

Southampton - 7 players

Chelsea - 6 players
