KPL Governing Council resolutions

05 February 2016, 13:03

Nairobi - The Kenyan Premier League Governing Council met in Mombasa on January 21 to 22 and passed a number of resolutions touching on the way the competition is run, association with sponsors, management, and finances.

Amongst other decisions, the league bosses agreed, in view of the partnership with sports betting firm SportPesa, to adopt a new betting policy to be signed by every player, referee, coach and club official before kickoff of the 2016 Premier League. The policy will, from 2017, form part of the players, referees, coaches and club officials contracts.

The meeting also resolved to review and set guidelines on club sponsorship by a single sponsor, club ownership and acquisition of a KPL club.

On league security, a League Chief Safety and Security Officer (CSSO) will be appointed through competitive bidding. Part of the role of the CSSO will be to train the Club Safety and Security Officers, Club Stewards and Marshals, and set the minimum safety requirements at all KPL events. This is in line with the league’s effort to improve safety in stadiums.

The governors agreed to review and adopt the best option of a centralized ticketing system for all KPL matches.

It was also resolved that the league adopts a zero-tolerance on player tapping in accordance with the Rules.

The Governing Council is the highest organ of the KPL and is composed of the 16 Premier League club chairmen and the president of Football Kenya Federation.
