Kane ready for main event against Leicester

12 January 2016, 15:09

London - Harry Kane believes Tottenham's FA Cup meeting with Leicester will provide only limited clues to the outcome of Wednesday's Premier League clash between the clubs.

Claudio Ranieri's Leicester will return to White Hart Lane just four days after Kane's last-minute penalty saved Tottenham from an early exit from the competition and set up a replay at the King Power stadium next week.

Both sides made changes for the cup clash, with Kane making his late contribution after appearing as a second half substitute.

The England forward will return to Mauricio Pochettino's starting line-up for a game that could see Spurs, currently sitting in fourth spot, move to within one point of Leicester who have maintained their impressive start and go into the latest round of matches in second place.

And speaking after the cup tie, Kane said: "I think it will be a different game in the Premier League. Both teams are near the top of the table so we're looking forward to that one.

"This was a little taster and now we play them Wednesday and the week after as well. We'll have seen enough of them by then! Hopefully we'll take some points off them."

Kane's penalty was his 50th goal for the club and the striker's explosive form since breaking into the Spurs first team last season has seen him watched by Europe's top clubs including Real Madrid.

But the 22-year-old insists he has no plans to leave the north London club and is happy to continue his development at White Hart Lane.

"There will always be rumours flying about but I'm happy here. The club is in good shape and we have a great future, so I'm raring to go and we'll see what happens," he said.

"We have a lot of young players who are getting better with each game. We are getting more experience with every game we play and we can only improve."

Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli, Erik Lamela and Jan Vertonghen will join Kane in returning to the line-up.

Kane's England team-mate Jamie Vardy hopes to return to the Leicester starting line-up just eight days after undergoing surgery on a groin injury but faces a late test on his fitness.

The 29-year-old sat out the FA Cup game between the sides as he recovered from the minor procedure but returned to training on Monday, albeit in a limited role.

Ranieri was due to assess Vardy's fitness on Tuesday.

"He is getting better," Ranieri said.

"On Monday he made the warm-up with the team and then he had a different programme.

"On Tuesday I'll check. I think he could be available."

Having made eight changes for the Cup fixture, Ranieri is expected to restore the majority of his Premier League regulars for the second meeting with Spurs in four days.

He confirmed N'Golo Kante, who was substituted at half-time on Saturday after showing signs if fatigue, will be fit.

One man not involved will be Andrej Kramaric, who has been advised by Ranieri to find a new club after making just six Premier League starts since his move from Rijeka in Croatia a year ago.

"I suggested to Andrej it's much better to go because in June there are the European Championships and he needs to play," Ranieri said.

"If he stays here, I'm very happy because he is a good player and a fantastic boy, but he doesn't have too many chances to play.

"He needs to play - in my opinion he is a very good goalscorer with good skills.

"It's not easy for him. He needs to smell the grass."
