Juventus CEO - Pogba forced his United move

09 September 2016, 14:17

Cape Town - Juventus had to let Paul Pogba leave the club as the player felt it was his "destiny" to join Manchester United, according to the club's chief executive Giuseppe Marotta.

Pogba signed for the Red Devils in the summer transfer window for a world-record fee of £89.3 million after spending four seasons with Juve.

The Italian side had insisted throughout the saga that they wouldn't sell the 23-year-old - who won four Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia cups in Italy - but they eventually cracked.

And now Marotta has revealed the reasons they had to cut their losses and let Pogba return to Old Trafford.

“Pogba? Destiny was in his head,” he said.

“We always said we never wanted to sell as he was an important figure for the club, the coach and the fans.

“But he wanted a change of scenery and to experience a different situation, so faced with that we had to enter into negotiations and try to make him happy.”
