Johanna backed to shine in Swedish trials

04 August 2016, 15:04

Nairobi - Chemelil Sugar FC midfielder Hillary Echesa has wished Mathare United counterpart Eric Johanna good luck in his trials with AIK Football in Sweden.

Johanna has caught the eye of a number of suitors after winning the 2015 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Midfielder of the Year accolade.

So far this season, Johanna has contributed four goals and four assists for the Slum Boys in 17 matches.

A few seasons ago, Echesa was in the same position, having secured a move to Asia after impressive performances.

"What matters is his age not the number of years he has played in the KPL because in Europe they are very keen with age because they always want to sign young players who can mature with more playing time," Echesa told Soka.

"This opportunity has come at the right time because he has also been in great form both for club and country and this gives him more confidence to play abroad.

"The Swedish league is competitive and he can follow the example of (McDonald) Mariga. He can use it as a stepping stone before proceeding to play in the top leagues in the world."
