Cahill: Chelsea errors are easy to fix

07 October 2016, 14:21

Cape Town - Chelsea defender Gary Cahill insists his high-profile errors in recent games are “easy to fix”.

Cahill has come under the spotlight over the last month after the finger was pointed at the 30-year-old for costly clangers in Chelsea’s games at both Swansea and Arsenal.

But Cahill believes those individual mistakes can be solved and has brushed off the criticism which has stemmed from those incidents.

“For me, my form up to Swansea was fine. I was playing well, I was happy,” he told the BBC.

“But then I made a few big errors and we all know that when you make a few errors in football, basic ones as well, it gets noticed. I’m not stupid.

“If you make a couple of mistakes in a couple of big games, then all of a sudden the whole season is tarnished like you’re having a bit of a nightmare. Yet it’s not like you can turn around and say ‘he’s lost his legs or is being beaten all ends up.’

“I basically made my own mistakes out of nothing, so as ridiculously bad as they were, they are also easy to correct.”

Cahill insists he doesn’t need pundits or supporters to tell him if he has been culpable either.

“I am my own fiercest critic, I do look at myself of course,” added the centre-half.

“I think that’s the way you should be and is the way I have improved. That’s how I got to where I am today.”
