Nairobi - AFC Leopards have sacked head coach Ivan Minnaert.
This was announced Thursday morning in the wake of a string of poor results in the Kenyan Premier League and domestic Cup competitions.
Minnaert, a Belgian national has been on the edge for a number of months with Leopards failing to make an impression on the Premier League title race but he was sent home on the basis of Leopards' shock 3-0 defeat to Western Stima in the GOtv Shield last Saturday.
According to club Secretary General Oscar Igaida, the club’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decided to fire Minnaert due to ‘unpleasant results’ posted by the club in recent weeks.
" The team has been posting unpleasant results and we were moving in the wrong direction. The NEC met on Wednesday and decided to relieve him off his duties, Igaida told News24.
Ezekiel Akwana who was Minnaert’s assistant takes over as interim coach.
The club says it expects to appoint a succesor in two weeks time.
