Nairobi - Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony Teddy Akumu bemoaned his team's
failure to defend the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in
Kenya were beaten in the quarterfinal by eventual winners Uganda after a 5-3 penalty shootout, following a goalless draw.
Akumu, who plays for Khartoum FC in Sudan, was left disappointed
after the Kenyans crashed out of the tournament in the last eight.
"Personally I don't think it was a very good tournament for us; we
wanted to go all the way and defend the title but that never happened
and now we have to sit down and assess where we messed up, not just as a
team but as a country," Akumu told Soka.
"Our next assignment is in March, in the African Cup of Nations
qualifiers and we are not so well placed after the loss to Zambia but
with four matches remaining I believe we can still do well if we give
our best and everyone plays their role.
"We have a good team but sometimes we lack the support and
motivation. As professionals we will always strive to give the best for
the national team whenever called up."
