Wenger defends Cabaye bid

21 August 2013, 16:33

London - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he does not have to justify the Gunners' transfer business to anyone.

This comes after Newcastle United midfielder, Yohan Cabaye, was dropped for their Premier League opener against Manchester City on Monday after Arsenal reportedly showed interest in the player.

Wenger retaliated furiously to allegations made by reporters and Magpies manager, Alan Pardew, stating that the Premier League’s longest serving manager had unsettled the 27-year-old midfielder with a bid for him a day before their season opener against City.

"There is nothing to explain. First of all, you don't know what we have done, you don't know if we did bid and you have come to a conclusion without knowing everything that has happened,” Wenger told the Sky Sports website.

"It is quite amazing that all of the people don't know and yet they always have opinions about things they don't know.

"I won't explain to you what happened. It is not down to me to explain to you everything I do. It is impossible.

"If we do a transfer, we will announce it. We always inform you. As for the rest, you have to leave us to do our own things."

Cabaye did not feature in Newcastle's 4-0 thrashing by City on the day.

Although Wenger denied his bid for the French man, the Telegraph's website reported that Newcastle have been talking to Cabaye’s agent following their decision to reject a £10.2m bid from Arsenal for the midfielder, but there seems little chance the player will be involved in the game against West Ham United on Saturday.

The Gunners already failed to sign their off-season big name targets such as Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid currently with the Italian outfit, Napoli, and Wayne Rooney of Manchester United.
