Nairobi - Sports, Arts and Culture Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario has rapped Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards over hooliganism in the country.
Wario condemned the vice on Wednesday during the award ceremony for the 2013 Kenyan Premier League best performers, specifically mentioning Gor and AFC Leopards.
He asked the two to deal with the menace as it was their role to.
" The government will not accept trash thrown at it
since everyone has a role to play. I was at the stadium during the GOtv final
and witnessed Gor Mahia fans pick seats and carrying them along the streets.
They also attempted to bring down a gate and even the AFC Leopards fans stormed
the pitch which is totally against the law.
" Clubs should take responsibility and deal with their fans.
It is impossible to have a special police force to deal with that and I have
talked to inspector general about it. It hasn't happened anywhere else in the
world and there is nothing special about Kenya. We give you a stadium to use so
ensure we get it back in good shape, he said.
The two clubs have been involved in incidences of hooliganism this season but nothing concrete has been done by the authorities.
