Nairobi - Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has declared that Arsenal have
expressed an interest in acquiring his services during the off-season.
The Kenya international has caught the eye with a number of fine
displays for Ronald Koeman's side this term, despite scoring only three
goals in 28 Premier League appearances.
The Saints lost the core of their first-team squad during the 2014
July-August transfer window, but Koeman has worked wonders at St Mary's
to take the club to the brink of Europe.
There are further departures expected during the upcoming transfer
window, with Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne at the top of the
But Wanyama claims he too is wanted elsewhere, with Gunners boss
Arsene Wenger a known admirer, having tried to sign the 23-year-old when
he left Celtic in 2013.
"Wenger has been talking about me, and he has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer," he told The Sun.
"Arsenal are a great club and I'd love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic.
"But we've had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay
focused on helping the club qualify for Europe. Then we'll see where I
end up in the summer."
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who worked with Wanyama during
their time together on the south coast, is also reportedly keen to be
reunited with the African.
Commenting on the Spurs link, he said: "If I get the chance, maybe.
You never know what will happen in the future. It's nice to be linked
with other clubs as it means I'm playing well."
