United trio set for Newcastle return

04 January 2012, 17:54

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to welcome Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs back into the fold for Wednesday's clash against Newcastle United, live action on SS3 from 9:30pm.

Ferguson will hope the experienced trio will add more bite and stability to his side following the shock home defeat to Blackburn and knows the Magpies will make life tough after holding the champions to a draw at Old Trafford in November.

With crosstown rivals Manchester City extending the lead at the top to three points with a 3-0 victory against Liverpool on Tuesday, the Red Devils will be hard-pressed to return to winning ways if they are to keep sight of City.
