Tusker out of Mapinduzi cup

09 January 2014, 12:28

Nairobi - Tusker FC lost out to Kampala City Council KCC 4-3 on post match penalties in the last eight of the annual Mapinduzi Cup to bow out of the tourney, Wednesday.

The game had ended in a barren draw during regular time and went straight to spot kicks according to the tourney rules where Ismail Dunga and Luke Ochieng saw their penalties saved.

Tusker had the upper hand in the game and lost almost five clear cut chances in regular time. The final whistle was blown with the teams tied 0-0.

Clifford Alwanga, Brian Osumba and Samuel Odhiambo scored for Tusker while KCC scored theirs through Tony Odur, Habib Kavuma, Stephen Bengo and goalkeeper Hakim Magoola.

KCC will take on defending champions Azam in the semi-finals. Tusker are expected back home Friday.

Head coach Francis Kimanzi said the tournament was an opportunity to blood his new players into the side.

" It was a good opportunity to give the new players a chance to play for the side and it has worked to good effect. We obviously hoped that we could make it to the final like last year but it was not to be.
