Tusker, Stars highlight league resumption

21 May 2014, 10:31

Nairobi - Five Premiership league matches have been lined-up across the country on Wednesday with the match pitting Tusker Football Club and City Stars the highlight of the midweek games.

According to the Kenya Premier League (KPL), three matches will be played at 1500hrs local time while two other matches will be played at 1:300 and 1615.

Third-placed Tusker will be hoping to win today's encounter in order to keep their hopes alive of winning the league championship title.

Tusker, who boast 21 points from 12 matches played to date trail log leaders Gor Mahia by five points, and a win this afternoon will see them reduce the gap by two points.

They however will find Stars a wounded buffalo following their recent 0-1 defeat at the hands of Mathare United.

Stars are involved in a fight against relegation.

They are placed at the bottom 14th out of 16 premiership clubs with a mere 12 points from the 12 games played so far.

Playing before their home crowd, City Stars will be looking to do their best to win or snatch a point against Tusker if they are to keep hopes of remaining in the Premiership next season.

Elsewhere, fourth positioned and the vastly-improved Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) will host the unpredictable Thika United at Nyayo National Stadium this afternoon.

KRA are on 4th position of the league log table with 20 points from 12 matches while Thika United lie tenth with 15 points from the same number of games played.

KRA, who are playing at home would need nothing less than a victory in order to keep chasing the pack for a possible title at the end of the season.

On the other hand, Thika United, who recently lost 1-2 to on form Chemelil Sugar, will be expected to come out guns blazing.

Fifth placed Sofapaka will host 11th positioned Bandari in a match likely to go Sofapaka's way.

After losing 2-1 to defending champions Gor Mahia, Sofapaka would always want to utilise the home advantage to collect all the three valuable points against Bandari.

Other lined up matches pit Muhoroni Youth against Ulinzi Stars at Muhoroni Stadium.

Bottom-placed Top Fry Nakuru will host Mathare United at Machakos Stadium.
