Tusker, Chemilil Sugar resume KPL

22 April 2014, 11:24

Nairobi - Premiership log leaders, Tusker, resume their charge for a first league title when they host stubborn Chemelil Sugar on Wednesday.

Tusker are leading the 16-team league log standing with 18 points from nine games played to date while second placed Gor Mahia, who are also the premiership defending champions amassed 17 points from the same number of matches played.

But is the encounter between Tusker and fourth placed Chemelil Sugar that highlights the main match of the week on Wednesday considering that Chemelil Sugar are no push-overs this season-placed fourth.

Chemelil Sugar boast 15 points from nine games played, but also have a huge opportunity to capture the league championship at the end of the season if they maintain their winning formula. Wednesday's encounter against Tusker will be one such glaring opportunity to claim the top spot.

The match comes on the back of Tusker losing their first match of the season when humiliated 4-2 defeat at the hands of Sofapaka, a development that Chemelil Sugar would want to repeat.

While Chemelil Sugar have built their team from enterprising youthful players, Tusker will be called to use their home advantage to dismantle the visitors so as to keep their title aspirations much alive.

On the other hand Tusker boast lethal ammunition in Jesse Were, Clifford Alwanga and sharp shooting forward Lloyd Wahome to rekindle their winning hopes following their recent embarrassing 4-2 defeat to Sofapaka.

Second-placed defending champions Gor Mahia host Muhoroni Youth, who are sixth on the league log table with 14 points from nine games played, but boasting youthful talent capable of springing huge surprises for the host.
In other premiership encounters scheduled for Wednesday Mathare United host former champions AFC Leopards in a match expected to go either way.

Elsewhere Thika United host on -fire Sofapaka, while City Stars entertain Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) with Bandari hosting Ulinzi Stars.

Western Stima will host Sony Sugar while the battle of relegation teams will see Top Fry Nakuru entertain KCB.
