Renard set for 2015 Nations Cup hosts Morocco - agent

13 February 2014, 19:10

Paris - Sochaux manager Herve Renard, who guided outsiders Zambia to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations title, is set to be named as the next manager of 2015 Nations Cup hosts Morocco, his agent told AFP on Thursday.

"Herve Renard is Morocco's priority," Youssef Haijoub said.

"He should be be chosen as manager as soon as the new president of the Moroccan Football Federation has been appointed," he added.

Sole candidate Faouzi Elkejaa is due to be elected as Moroccan football chief at the end of March, with Renard's contract "signed in April", Haijoub added.

Renard's task with Morocco will be to try and emulate his success with Zambia in Gabon in 2013 at the 2015 edition of the continental showpiece.

Renard is expected to take up his post with the Atlas Lions once the Ligue 1 season finishes and in time for Morocco's friendly matches against World Cup finalists Russia on May 26 and Croatia five days later.

According to Haijoub Renard perfectly fulfils the criteria of Morocco's search for a manager "who has experience in Africa, in the style of Claude Le Roy."

The much travelled Le Roy won the Nations Cup with Cameroon in 1988 and has just become the coach of Congo, his seventh coaching job on the continent.
