Police team's 999 record no cause for alarm

04 February 2014, 20:34

London - While fans of some teams preserve tables showing their team top of a division, one football enthusiast took to Twitter to publicise the record of London's Metropolitan Police Force team.

So far in this season's semi-professional Ryman Isthmian League, one of the police's record stands at played 27, won nine, drawn nine and lost nine.

In table format, a published record of '999' corresponds to the emergency telephone number for all UK police, ambulance and fire services.

However, the statistical coincidence is set to disappear later Tuesday, when the Met team welcome Hampton and Richmond Borough to their Imber Court home ground.

Met spokesman Graham Wetton said Monday: "I am not sure how our players have managed it but strangely our league record to date is '999'. If we play tomorrow then obviously it will change!"
