Owuor cries foul over axing

Nairobi - Former KCB captain Benedict Owuor has blasted the Bankers
for their decision to release him on the final day of the June transfer window.
Owuor is currently sidelined by a knee injury, which he
suffered in the 3-2 defeat by Gor Mahia in April and is set to undergo an
The 26-year-old expressed his frustration that the club
elected not to renew his contract while he out is injured.
"The manner in which I was released is very unfair.
Despite serving the club for all those years, this is how the management can
reward me," the former KCB captain told The Standard.
"My contract was due to expire on June 30, but I was
short-changed as both of us had agreed to renew it. I was shocked when the
coach informed me about my sacking on the transfer deadline day.
"I understand, the club is in a critical condition but
that doesn't mean with my injury I wouldn't be useful to the team.
"Right now I am a free agent, I'm supposed to undergo a
surgery in the next few weeks, but where will I get the money for the exercise?
"I sustained this injury in the line of duty, but the
club officials have neglected me as they've failed to live up to their medical
assistance promises," he concluded.
