Owino expects title defence

31 October 2014, 12:15

Nairobi - Gor Mahia defender David Owino said the squad would have nobody else to blame but themselves if they failed to win the league this season.

At this juncture, K'Ogalo are just one point clear of Sofapaka at the top of the KPL standings, with two matches to play this season.

This is compounded by the fact the defending champions have won just three of their last five matches, which is an indication the club is vulnerable and most certainly beatable.

However, Owino remains confident about the club's prospect of securing the title they won last season.

"We have a chance, a big chance to win it. What happened last weekend wasn't strange. The opponents (Sofapaka) were better than us on the day but we are still a point above them," Owino told the KPL website this week.

The suggestion has been made that the Gor Mahia players have been somewhat complacent this season but Owino denies that this is the case, as the desire to achieve league success has not waned at any stage during the campaign.

"We now have two matches remaining; matches that we cannot afford to lose so we are really focusing on getting maximum points," said the Gor defender.

The next assignment for the Nairobi giants is a trip to the Muhoroni Youth on Saturday. Youth have won their last two league fixtures and are not to be trifled with under any circumstances.
