Omondi unlikely to get SA Visa, Musa Otieno says

11 October 2014, 15:48

Nairobi - Kenya assistant coach Musa Otieno has thrown a cloud of doubt over Kevin Omondi's chances of obtaining a South African work permit.

The Gor Mahia midfielder signed for Moroka Swallows after a successful trial in July, but has yet to make an official appearance for the Soweto club owing to a delay in obtaining his visa.

Otieno, who was a long-serving member of Santos in the South African top-flight, explained that the situation was made more complicated by Omondi's decision to leave before sorting out his papers.

"It is a long process that can take up to two months. This is why it is important to have a work permit before the season kicks off," Otieno is quoted as saying by the Standard.

"In Omondi's case, his team has played over six matches, and maybe the coach now feels he doesn't need him," he added.

Otieno will be traveling with the Harambee Stars squad to Morocco on Friday, for this weekend's international friendly against the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations hosts.
