Okumbi happy with youth recruits

08 July 2014, 22:29

Nairobi - Mathare United coach Stanley Okumbi has expressed his enthusiasm over the youth signings made during the just concluded transfer window.

The Slum Boys signed seven players, but only two have KPL experience, while the rest came from the lower leagues - such as Aggrey Okwemba, who was on the books of Nairobi County League side Kariobangi Youngsters.

Speaking to the club's website, the Mathare boss was optimistic about his young charges' potential in the top flight.

"Although we have a limited budget, we went for all of the players we were interested in," Okumbi said.

"Most of them will be part of the team, as it is always known that we always give youth a sporting chance as long as they are fit and ready," he added.
