Okumbi clarifies Karani exit

09 June 2014, 13:09

Nairobi - Mathare United coach Stanley Okumbi feels it would not have served anyone to keep want-away striker Meshack Karani at the club.

The forward only joined the Slum Boys in 2013 after they lost several of their top players to rival clubs, although he was shipped off to Chemelil Sugar last week.

Okumbi has now revealed his reasons for allowing Karani to leave, telling Mathare's official website:

"Meshack is a striker with a bright future and plenty of potential. I think he was a solution for our team after losing top strikers to the other clubs but his heart was not in our team and that is why we had to let him go."

Karani has already received his clearance and will be eligible to make his Sugar debut on Monday when they take on Bandari in the Kenyan Premier League.
