Nyamweya calls on fan turnout for CECAFA

25 November 2013, 12:21

Nairobi - FKF president Sam Nyamweya is hoping for a strong fan turnout during the upcoming CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.

The last time the tourney was held in Kenya, there was little or no attention paid towards the competition by the local football fans, causing a huge backlash from organisers who vowed never to bring the tournament back to Kenya.

A few turned up to watch Kenya's Harambee Stars play and when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals, the numbers dropped badly, culminating in an empty stadium during the final.

Nyamweya has thus called on Kenyans to give the tourney a boost by playing a part.

" I call on all the fans to come out and support this initiative for the good of the game in the country. It has been a long time since we hosted the tournament so we should try as much as possible to make it a success, he said.

The tourney kicks off Wednesday.
