Nigeria to decide domestic league start

25 November 2013, 21:05

Abuja - Nigerian football chiefs are to meet this week to thrash out a new date for the delayed start of the new domestic league, after a previous proposal was scrapped.

The 2013-14 campaign had been due to kick off this month but was postponed due to a row between club managers and the League Management Company (LMC) over the running of the competition.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) hosts its annual general meeting in the southeastern city of Warri on Thursday, with approval of a new start date top of the agenda.

The NFF is also expected to extend the contract of the LMC for another season.

Officials suggested that the new season will most likely begin in February after the Championship of African Nations in South Africa, where Nigeria will make their debut.

The 2012-13 Nigerian domestic season ended in October with Kano Pillars retaining their league crown.

They will represent the country in next year's CAF Champions League along with runners-up Enyimba.
