Nandwa pleads for time to build formidable Leopards outfit

07 January 2014, 12:05

Nairobi - AFC Leopards head coach James Nandwa has pleaded for time to build a strong Leopards team after a disappointing tour of Zanzibar.

Leopards were poor in their Mapinduzi Cup campaign in the last week, losing two and drawing one of their three games in the tourney.

They lost 1-0 to Simba SC, drew 0-0 with KMKM (Kikosi Maalum cha Kuzuia Magendo) and then lost 3-0 to Uganda's KCCA.

The results drew angry reactions from Leopards fans who demanded explanations for the poor results and whilst Nandwa admits they were poor, he says they need more than enough time to make things work.

" I know that the fans demand good results every time and I acknowledge that we were not good enough in Zanzibar.

" On the other hand, they cannot understate the importance of time. We have six new players in the side and they all played a part in the games.

" We also gave a chance to some young players and furthermore, we are in pre-season while the rest of the teams are in the middle of their seasons.

" I'm not trying to defend the results but to remind everyone that this is still a work in progress.

" We have some really good players in the side and I'm confident they will perform but as I have said and will say again, they need time to settle, he said.

Leopards return to the country Tuesday.
