Mururi rues costly defensive lapse

24 July 2014, 15:49

Nairobi - Chemelil Sugar coach Mike Mururi was left ruing his side's "poor defending" following the 1-1 draw against Sofapaka on Wednesday.

The Sugar Millers looked set to climb to third in the Kenyan Premier League standings as they led their more illustrious opponents heading into the closing stages at the Kenyatta Stadium.

However, a lapse in concentration at the back allowed Batoto ba Mungu to draw level, leaving Chemelil fifth on the table and coach Mururi less than impressed.

"We were well on our way to picking three points and then we allowed Sofapaka to come back into the match. I can only attribute it to poor defending," he told Goal.

"It is a problem we have been having for the last few matches and one we need to rectify quickly."

However, the tactician was generally happy with his side's showing against the former KPL champions, adding: "We played well and the confidence is coming back. We hope to start winning soon."
