Mourinho-Eto'o reunion

29 August 2013, 16:11

London - After weeks of persuing the signature of the Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, it appears that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is admitting defeat as he is now focusing on bringing Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o to Stamford Bridge.

The IOL website reported that the former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan target man is due to arrive in London on Thursday for a medical at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground before finalising terms after his advisers reached an agreement on Wednesday.
It's no surprise to the global football fraternity that Eto’o is heading to Chelsea as it was reported earlier this month that the “Special One” was keeping an eye on him as his Plan B, should Rooney decide to stay at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old striker will join the Blues on a free transfer from Anzhi Makhachkala as the Russian club was reportedly offloading their big name players with fat pay cheques due to their financial instabilities.

Both Mourinho and Eto’o guided Italian Serie A outfit Milan to Champions League glory in 2010.

The London outfit once attempted to recruit the three-time African footballer of the year - back in 2006 - with Mourinho still at their helm for a price tag worth £60 million, but his club at the time, Barcelona, rejected the bid.

Eto’o joined Anzhi from Milan on a three-year deal that made him the world’s highest paid player, with a salary of €20 million - after tax - per season.
