Mieno searches for positives

29 July 2014, 19:24

Nairobi - AFC Leopards midfielder Humphrey Mieno believes Sunday's draw against Gor Mahia highlighted the fact the side are improving as the Kenyan Premier League season goes on.

The two Nairobi rivals could not be separated as this weekend's encounter at the Nyayo National Stadium finished 2-2, although the point did little to aid Ingwe's stuttering season, with last season's runners-up still trapped in the bottom-half of the standings.

Mieno, though, preferred to focus on the positives, saying: "It was a nice game and we played well, though I know a win would have been better.

"We are playing much better now, as seen in the game and I believe we will get better in the remaining matches and even finish in a good position."

A lot of Leopards' struggles this term have been credited to the fact they lost two of their star players in Paul Were and Allan Wanga during the recent transfer period, but Mieno, who was brought in as the pair went out, believes there is still more than enough quality in the squad to make a decent run in the second-half of the season.

He said: "I can't say much about them (Were and Wanga) because I came here in the mid-season transfer while they left at around the same period. All I can say is that we have a capable lot of players and we are getting our groove back and soon we will start doing well."
