Matano praises young Birgen

09 July 2014, 12:24

Nairobi - Ulinzi Stars head coach Robert Matano has hailed the impact young defender Brian Birgen made in his side's win over AFC Leopards on Saturday.

The defender held his own against seasoned Kenya international Paul Were in the clash, as the Soldiers recorded an inspiring 2-1 victory over Ingwe.

Matano expressed delight that his brave decision to give the youngster a run ahead of Mulinge Ndetto, who dropped to the bench.

"The youth are the future of the team and football as a whole and I will not be afraid to give them a chance so long as they prove themselves in training," he told the club's website.

"Birgen is a very good player, I first watched him play for Warriors and I knew he will make a good addition to the team.

"He played very well and I am proud of his performance," the coach concluded.

Birgen was one of three players promoted from club's youth side Ulunzi Warriors, together with another defender Rodgers Omondi and striker Aggrey Mejja.
